Thanks to our volunteers
Ruskoka is extremely grateful to all the volunteers who helped out during construction of the chapel under the guidance of our indefatigable project manager Alex Shishkov, and to the tireless supporters, young and older, who worked at many, many different jobs during the camp itself. Mnogaya leta!

The St. Alexis Chapel Weekend
The church was opened with a Vigil, Liturgy, dedication of the foundation stone, the small blessing and a moleben on the day of the patronal Feast of St. Alexis the Royal Martyr. Bishop Gabriel of Manhattan presided over the services in the presence of the Miracle-Working "Kursk-Root" Icon of the Mother of God. You can read an account of this wonderful event on the Synod website in English or in Russian.

We are grateful to Tokmakov-TV and OMNI television for their excellent coverage of the event, shown on Russian Waves on September 10th and 12th, and for their reporting on camp in general.

Camp/chapel work weekend,
Sep 17-18 and October 1-2
The first fall work weekend will take place on Sep. 17-18. We will resume work on the St. Alexis Chapel including on the siding, staining, painting and sealing. There will be camp work as well. Depending on the weather and turnout, we will sleep in tents or in the buildings. Delicious meals will be provided as usual. Please contact Alik at [email protected] or at 416-232-0829 if you can make it.

A second work weekend is in the plans for Oct 1-2. Look for announcements on the Ruskoka website

Camp 2005
Over 50 children participated in the busy camp program this summer. The expanded program included daily morning and evening prayers in the newly-built chapel, a variety of outdoor sports, canoe and mountain bike trips, hikes, Russian folk dances as well as rock climbing, archery and fencing. Throughout the camp session, services and religious discussions were led by Fr. Stelian Liabotis, Fr. Viatcheslav Davidenko, Fr. Vladimir Morin and Fr. Vladimir Malchenko. This year campers and volunteers alike truly enjoyed the warm, sunny weather. Photos will be on the website soon.

Update on fund-raising for the St. Alexis Chapel Project
Thanks to the generosity of our many donors, fundraising continues to go well with over $63,000 of our $100,00 target raised, but we are still short funds to cover expenses for materials. Can you make a donation to help us meet the costs?

Donations can be made by cash, cheque or Visa, through one-time gifts, or by monthly or annual pledges. Categories of donations are: Founder – from $3000 / Builder – $2000-$2999 / Supporter – $1000-$1999 / In memoriam – from $1000 / Donor – $100-$999. Contact George Skok at 416-483-2441 or [email protected] to make a donation. All donors will be acknowledged through plaques, announcements and commemorative lists.
